21 April 2021: NIOVIS SHIPPING CO. S.A. proudly signs, along with over 800 companies and organizations, the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change, in a worldwide call to resolve the crew change crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Covid-19 pandemic has left numerous seafarers stranded on ships, having direct impact to their physical and mental ability and increasing the risk of maritime incidents. Despite all considerable efforts, the crew change crisis has remained unsolved for a very long time.
Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change defines four main actions to facilitate crew changes and keep global supply chains functioning:
- Recognize seafarers as key workers and give them priority access to Covid-19 vaccines
- Establish and implement gold standard health protocols based on existing best practice
- Increase collaboration between ship operators and charterers to facilitate crew changes
- Ensure air connectivity between key maritime hubs for seafarers
